Biolase Receives 2 Patents for Waterlase MD Laser System

Dental laser company Biolase Technology Inc. of Irvine, Calif., announced today that it has been granted two new US patents covering technologies that make its Waterlase MD all-tissue laser system more flexible and easier to use. The first patent, No. 7,292,759, allows the laser system to deliver energy for tissue ablation while simultaneously performing other applications, such as providing the user with images of the target tissue via an integrated camera. The second patent, No. 7,290,940, allows the Waterlase MD to recognize types of fiber tips and determine whether they can be accepted by the laser system, without the need for user input.
