Robotic Vision Systems Sheds Ice-Detection Unit
Robotic Vision Systems Inc. in Canton, Mass., has sold the assets and technology of its wide-area ice-detection product line to
BF Goodrich Aerospace's Aircraft Sensors Div.
Six years ago, Robotic Vision Systems developed a handheld laser-scanning device that enabled users to spot ice on airplane wings. The company has been working recently on a similar device that would enable pilots to monitor ice buildup remotely from the cockpit.
"Basically we thought they had the resources to advance the system and sell it effectively," said Dan Schoeffler, general manager of Robotics Vision's aircraft safety division.
