Fiber Optic Backlighting Rivals Join Forces
Lumitex Inc. of Strongsville, Ohio, has merged with
Poly-Optical Products Inc., combining technologies and product offerings to expand their presence in the electronic display markets. The two companies have been longtime competitors.
Lumitex is known for its woven fiber optic technology used in lighting systems for electronics applications and fiber optic backlighting solutions. Irvine, Calif.-based Poly-Optical uses fiber optic technologies with patented etching processes to extract light from optical fiber. Typical applications include truck and bus knob and switch panels, spa controls and lighting computer workstations.
As part of the merger, Poly-Optical will become a division of Lumitex. Engineering, sales and manufacturing operations will remain in their current locations.
