LED APPLICATIONS
A technology fact sheet from the US Department of Energy, “Using LEDs to Their Best Advantage,” presents unique characteristics of LEDs as well as applications for which they are particularly suitable. Part of the department’s “LED Application” series, the four-page downloadable document discusses LED features, including compact size, breakage resistance, and the virtual absence of IR and UV emissions. Capabilities such as directional light emission, cold-temperature operation, instant-on with no warm-up, rapid cycling, and controllability/tunability also are covered. Comparisons are made with incandescent, fluorescent and high-intensity discharge lighting. Applications include undercabinet, refrigerator and outdoor area lighting.
