Photonics Society of Poland to Be Inaugurated
The Photonics Society of Poland (PSP) will hold its inaugural symposium May 31 at Warsaw University of Technology, said its president, Tomasz R. Wolinski, a member of the university's physics faculty. PSP, which evolved from the SPIE Poland Chapter, has 215 members and said it is coordinating activies with the Polish Academy of Sciences electronics and telecommunications committee (Wolinski chairs its optoelectronics section) and the Society of Polish Electrical Engineers' optoelectronics committee. SPIE'd regional chapters have been facilitating a transition to form locally based groups that maintain close connections with the society SPIE said. Malgorzata Kujawinska, a professor at the Warsaw University of Technology, was SPIE's president in 2005. PSP board members include Leszek R. Jaroszewicz, Military University of Technology, Warsaw (vice president, membership and industry); Andrzej Domanski, Warsaw University of Technology (treasurer); Anna Cysewska-Sobusiak, Technical University of Poznan (secretary); Zbigniew Jaroszewicz, Institute of Applied Optics, Warsaw (conference coordinator); Bogdan Kosmowski, Technical University of Gdansk (regional liaison for north Poland); Aneta Michalkiewicz, Warsaw University of Technology (student chapters coordinator); Tadeusz Pustelny, Silesian University of Technology (regional liaison for south Poland); Ryszard Romaniuk, Warsaw University of Technology ("Photonics Letters" editor-in-chief); and Waclaw Urbanczyk, Technical University of Wroclaw ("Optica Applicata" editor-in-chief).
