Growth in Imaging Market Forecasted

The global market for imaging components is expected to jump from $35.5 billion in 2005 to more than $58 billion in 2012, according to a recent market research report from BCC Research of Wellesley, Mass. The “Electronics and Components in Global Imaging Markets” report, released in March 2008, anticipates a compound annual growth rate of 7.8 percent by 2012.

Fueling this growth is the image analysis area, which comprises application-specific integrated circuits, digital signal processors, field-programmable gate arrays, memory modules, systems-on-a-chip and transceivers. This segment is expected to grow at a rate of 9.3 percent annually, with projected sales totaling just over $22 billion by 2012.

The image capture market — made up of laser components, lenses, sensors and superconducting wires — is expected to have the second fastest rate of growth, with a projected 9.9 percent annually and total sales that will be worth just over $17 billion in 2012.
