Europeans Sign Up for Hydrocarbon Sensing Project

Scientists and engineers from the UK, France, Poland, Sweden and Germany are collaborating on the European Union’s “Photonic sensing of hydrocarbons based on innovative mid infrared lasers” (SENSHY) project, with the goal of developing laser-based gas-sensing systems in the wavelength range around 3.3 μm for detecting hydrocarbons. The technology will be used for environmental applications including methane gas sensing in landfills and water treatment plants. Among the partner companies are Gas Measurement Instruments Ltd. of Renfrew, Scotland, Siemens Laser Analytics AB of Mölndal, Sweden, and nanoplus Nanosystems and Technologies GmbH of Gerbrunn, Germany.
