Coherent Ships Glaucoma-Treating Lasers Overseas
Coherent Inc. of Santa Clara, Calif., announced that it will begin shipment outside the US of a medical laser used in primary open-angle glaucoma treatment. The company designed its Selecta 7000 specifically to perform selective laser trabeculoplasty, a new procedure that may become standard treatment for this condition. Results of a preliminary study showed that the procedure reduces the optic nerve pressure associated with glaucoma by 30 percent. Clinical studies will continue in the US and Japan.
