IRPhotonics Produces Tough Fiber
IRphotonics of Hamden, Conn., a provider of infrared-based materials and systems, has announced that it has produced a commercial-grade 125-µm IR fiber rated to 100 knots-per-sq-in. strength following the Telecommunications Industry Alliance’s standard test method FOTP-28. The standard calls for the measurement of dynamic strength in tension using a 50-cm-gauge length, as opposed to the less stringent bending test. This represents a milestone toward the company’s goal of enabling next-generation infrared optical systems for medical, defense and spectroscopy applications with mechanically robust fibers.
