Partners Deliver 980-nm Pump Modules for Undersea Use

SDL Inc. and Alcatel Optronics will deliver high-power 980-nm pump modules for deployment in undersea communications networks. Alcatel builds the modules, and SDL supplies the 980-nm semiconductor laser chips.
High-power pump modules operating at 980 nm offer low noise on signals that propagate through optical amplifiers, increasing the transmission bandwidth for a fiber optic network.
