DaimlerChrysler to Increase Use of Metrologic's Scanners
BLACKWOOD, NJ, April 26 -- Metrologic Instruments Inc. announced that DaimlerChrysler has increased the number of Metrologic HoloTrak IS8500 omnidirectional bar code scanners used at its assembly plant entry and exit gates. First installed by DaimlerChrysler in 1997, the scanners read bar codes on tractor trailers entering and exiting the plants; the data is then fed to a PC host system that directs the trucks to the correct loading docks, minimizing the need for manual data entry and monitoring. DaimlerChrysler says that it plans to deploy a significant number of additional HoloTrak scanners over the next year to speed shipment processing at its North American assembly and manufacturing facilities.
