Lighting the Way to Better Surgery

What do surgeons and miners have in common? Headlamps, of course: Both groups need light sources that move where they're looking but leave their hands free to perform their work.

And Welch Allyn's CL100 SFI Surgical Headlight System could be just what the doctor ordered.

At the company's exhibition hall booth at Optifab 2009 in Rochester, NY, Lighting Products division marketing manager Douglas M. Rutan provided a demonstration of the light source, designed to be mounted on a surgical headpiece.

The CL100's high-color temperature Xenon light transmits efficiently and crisply through single-fiber optics to provide the highest color temperature is available where it counts most: at the focal point. Full systems, available through Welch Allyn's network of specialty surgical headlight dealers, include the CL100 Surgical Illuminator, a mobile stand for the unit, SFI Fiber and headpiece with elastic terrycloth headband.

Welch Allyn Inc., headquartered in Skaneateles Falls, NY, manufactures innovative medical diagnostic equipment, patient monitoring systems and precision lamps. Welch Allyn Lighting Products designs and manufactures a wide range of high-performance illumination products.
