Reliant Technologies Inc.

Mountain View, Calif.-based Reliant Technologies Inc., a developer of clinical techniques for repairing and rejuvenating aging and environmentally damaged skin, has received FDA clearance for ablation, coagulation and skin resurfacing using its Fraxel re:pair laser system, based on ongoing results from two rounds of clinical trials. The system performs fractional deep dermal ablation treatment, which leads to tissue contraction and tightening and to collagen remodeling. The laser will remove aged and damaged skin without prolonged downtime or adverse reactions associated with surgical procedures and conventional ablative resurfacing lasers, according to the company. The instrument combines conventional CO2 resurfacing with fractional photothermolysis to treat only a portion of the skin’s surface, leaving the surrounding areas intact so they can heal.
