Total Solutions From Photonics India

Carrying on with my quest of highlighting some of the stars of the Indian photonics industry brought me to Photonics India. According to the company, the team has a combined experience of over 25 man-years in consulting and offering value added solutions to our customers worldwide.

Photonics India started in late 2000 with a focus on supplying electro-optics materials, components, and test and measurement systems.

Photonics India offers total solutions to the industry, research and development sector using optics and electro-optics principles, by way of optics and electro-optics materials, components, test systems and customized solutions.

This company is representing several companies. Elaborating further, Narayana Sharma, director, Photonics India, outlined his firm's activities.

The company represents Halcyonics GmbH, which will be renamed as Accurion GmbH from July 2009, for Halcyonics active vibration isolation products that remove low frequency noise and vibration to improve performance of measuring equipment and bring them to their limits and Nanofilm Surface Analysis -- the EP3 BAM – Brewster Angle Microscopy, specifically, the EP3 Imaging Ellipsometer, and the SPEM –- EP3 + AFM, respectively.

According to Sharma, the EP3 BAM is the global standard technique for the investigation of ultra thin organic films, allowing a lateral resolution of 1 micron, the current limit of CCD optical detectors. Applications include: Domains and order phenomena, Transformation of monolayer into multilayered structures, Photochemical reaction (e.g., photoisomerization), LB-films on solid structures, Influences of various subphase compositions (counter-ions) on monolayer structures, Polymers and other materials that cannot be detected by fluorescence microscopy, Adsorption kinetics, In-situ polymerization in monolayer, Phase separation, Quality and homogeneity of LB-films.

On SPEM, he said that it is a combination of Imaging Ellipsometer based on Nanofilm’s EP³ and the scanning probe microscope ULTRA-Objective (UO) from S.I.S. GmbH. SPEM integrates two full-featured instruments via intelligent sample handling, integrating complementary data from two independent methods without the need for laborious sample positioning.

Some of the other companies represented by Photonics India includes: Metrolux GmbH, Gottingen -- for Laser Energy Meters and Laser Beam profiler, and VUV Spectrometer.

The Laser Energy Meters and Laser Beam profiler are used to measure laser power and beam profile during non-linear optic experiments like ablation, etc. The VUV Spectrometer is used to characterize thin film optical coatings from 115 nm (under vacuum) to 300 nm. It is the only available system in India to characterize under vacuum at LEOS, Bangalore.

In my next post, I will detail some of the services provided by Photonics India.
