Department of Defense

The Department of Defense Breast Cancer Research Program has granted an Innovator Award to Joe Gray at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in Berkeley, Calif. Gray’s team, including researchers from the University of California, San Francisco, from the University of California, Berkeley, and from Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, Calif., focuses on improving screening and on reducing mortalities from breast cancer. The nearly $8 million award will fund the research for a screening system that has better imaging technology and that allows technicians to map the full extent of a precancerous lesion.
