GlaxoSmithKline plc of Brentford, UK, Imperial College London and the Medical Research Council, also of London, have established the Clinical Imaging Centre in the same city. Contributing a total of £83 million, the institutions created the center to facilitate the development of medicines for cancer, cardiovascular disease and neurological disorders through the use of MRI and PET. Housing a radiochemistry development facility, two MRI devices and two PET scanners, the unit will have the ability to perform 2500 scans per year. Research fellows from the college as well as clinical, scientific and support staff will work on the building’s three floors. GlaxoSmithKline has pledged to invest £11 million in the center for each of the next 10 years.
