Harvard Office of Technology Development

The Harvard Office of Technology Development of Cambridge, Mass., has licensed its coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering microscopy technique to Leica Microsystems GmbH of Wetzlar, Germany. Permitting nondisruptive in vivo imaging of biological specimens, the technology will find use in the company’s confocal microscopes. The method’s contrast comes from molecular vibrations, and the concentration of a particular molecule in a cell or tissue can be mapped with 300-nm resolution and up to approximately 0.3 mm below the sample’s surface.
