Luxtec, German Partner Get FDA Approval for Camera
WORCESTER, Mass., May 6 -- Luxtec Corp. reports that its Fiber Imaging Technologies subsidiary and its German partner, Schoelly Fiberoptic GmbH, have received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration to market a miniaturized camera for use in interoral and medical applications in the United States. The Flexiscope product is a modular endoscope camera that illuminates, magnifies and visually documents oral structures, dental cavities, dental pulp and diagnostic procedures in dental applications. It can also be used in other body cavities for different medical applications.
The miniaturized camera consists of a base station, an interchangeable drawer inserted into the base station that accommodates one of a series of camera modules, two accessory probes with 0- and 90-degree lenses, and a video display and recording system. The Flexiscope is the latest product to result from the joint venture partnership of Fiber Imaging and Schoelly, which was established to facilitate development of specialty endoscopes, light sources, illumination products and micro-optic cameras for dental, medical and commercial markets.
