CyberOptics Acquires HAMA Laboratories
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn., May 7 -- CyberOptics Corp. has acquired the assets of HAMA Laboratories, Inc. (HAMA) for approximately $6.75 million, with additional consideration to follow. HAMA is a designer and manufacturer of laser wafer-mapping and aligning sensors used in semiconductor wafer fabrication; it supplies sensors to most major OEMs of robotic wafer handling equipment.
HAMA's laser-based mapping sensors detect the presence of silicon wafers in slotted cassettes that store the wafers during transport to fabrication workstations. The sensors also verify that each wafer is properly aligned in its slot in order to prevent damage during the insertion of the next wafer. Alignment sensors locate the center and determine the orientation of the wafer during processing and inspection. HAMA expects to benefit from the industry-wide conversion from the current standard wafer diameter of 200 mm to the new standard of 300 mm, as the company says its sensors are well suited to the new equipment this standard will require.
