Confocal microscopy

The Atlas of Confocal Laser Scanning In-Vivo Microscopy in Ophthalmology discusses the principles of confocal in vivo microscopy, including slit-scanning techniques, the basics of image formation and confocal fluorescence microscopy. Written for ophthalmologists and other physicians interested in the techniques, the resource demonstrates normal in vivo anatomy of the cornea, limbus and conjunctiva and quantifies cellular structures using cell-density calculations. It establishes correlations between novel optical sections of various diseases of the ocular surface and clinical findings. With 692 illustrations, many of which are in color, the 212-page resource covers nonophthalmological applications as well as promising ones such as glaucoma surgery and alterations of the cornea in contact lens wearers. References and an index are provided. R.F. Guthoff, C. Baudouin and J. Stave; Springer, New York, 2006; $89.95.
