New Fiber Optek Division Eyes Faster Networks
WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY, June 11 -- Fiber Optek Interconnect Corp. is forming a new division to develop technology to increase the capacity of existing communications infrastructures. Such a boost could be achieved by converting global telephone standards from circuit-switched signals to packet-switched signals, asserts Fiber Optek president Michael S. Pascazi.
The company has begun development of a protocol employing mathematical algorithms and associated hardware to boost existing fiber networks' capacity. Fiber Optek's R&D facility is currently operating a prototype system that allows communication over the Internet of the basic building block of the international phone system, namely a 56Kb DS-O circuit.
