GigOptix Seeks $5M in Federal Funding
GigOptix Inc., a fabless manufacturer of electronic engines for the digital industry, announced that US Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) has requested $5 million in government funding for the development of the company’s on-chip integrated photonic polymer transceiver.
Requested in the fiscal year 2011 Defense Appropriations bill, it must receive approval from the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee.
The funding is anticipated to help develop a new family of fully integrated 100 G drivers and modulators for use by the US Air Force in its communications systems. The company’s polymer products will lead to faster, smaller and more energy efficient communications systems for the military’s technology systems, said the company.
