Thermo Fisher Opens Global Response Center

The science serving company Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. announced a global food testing laboratory has been opened to help solely contain costly and life-threatening chemical contamination crises.

Located in Dreieich, the Food Safety Response Center is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and staffed by chemists who will mobilize quickly to aid governments and businesses facing an unknown food safety threat that involve chemical contaminants.

“Identification and containment of food toxicity require a rapid response, otherwise the threat to human health and global commerce is magnified with each passing day,” said Marc N. Casper, president and CEO of the company. “Chemical contamination in food is a growing and costly threat, including risks for environmental contamination and naturally occurring toxins.”

The center will serve as a valuable resource for food companies, governments and the people they serve when there is a risk.

In the event of a chemical contamination, the center’s team will mobilize and set a process into motion for developing the methods, providing the workflow instructions and recommending the instrumentation, equipment and supplies necessary to give food safety professionals the capability to rapidly detect the contaminant.

It is strategically located in close proximity to many of Europe’s food safety research institutions and it houses the company’s analytical instruments to enable rapid method development for chemical contamination in food.
