Discovery Channel Telescope Awards Contract to OST

Optical Surface Technologies (OST) announced its recent contract award with the Discovery Channel Telescope at Lowell Observatory to coat the 4.3 m primary mirror and to provide manufacturing support for the 1.4 m secondary mirror.

The contract launched the company’s mobile coating capability by providing comprehensive onsite coating services at customer facilities.

The service facilitates chamber outsourcing operations by using OST’s staff onsite to perform periodic cleaning and recoating activities when needed. OST manufactures, tests and coats large custom optics, and its fabrication facility is capable of producing mirrors and optical components up to 3 m in diameter.
