Chroma Tapped to Work on World’s Brightest Photon Source
Test and measurement instruments manufacturer Chroma ATE Inc. announced that it acquired a multimillion dollar contract with the National Synchrotron Radiation Research Center (NSRRC) to build ultrahigh stability power supplies for its photon source.
The company will provide the supply systems for use in NSRRC’s Synchrotron Light Source within the next two years.
As Asia’s first third-generation Synchrotron Light Source in Taiwan, it has been running for 17 years and is utilized in the basic and applied scientific research of material, biochemistry, energy, electronics, microelectromechanical systems and nanoscience.
The NSRRC plans to build a Taiwan photon source with three billion electron volts of electron beam energy and a circumference of 518 m by 2014. In compliance with energy savings, the power supply offered by Chroma delivers 250 A / 30 V ultrahigh stable ±10 ppm with high resolution output current control, and high efficiency and power factor.
The company will also monitor the systems’ operation with its new remote control technology. The power supply is anticipated to assist the NSRRC to build the world’s brightest synchrotron x-ray source for application in advanced science study and to help promote academic research in Taiwan.
