Navy Chooses Creaform Handyscan 3-D Technology

Creaform announced that the US Navy has chosen to use its Handyscan three-dimensional technology to assist in submarine repair.

In Kittery, Maine, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard will be the first to receive an order for the company’s MAXscan scanner, a 2-in-1 photogrammetry laser scanner for large parts. In addition, Norfolk Naval Shipyard of Portsmouth, Va., Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard in Hawaii and Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, Wash., are assessing the use of the scanner.

Used to scan submarine hulls covered in a special kind of rubber, the MAXscan 3-D laser scanners will also be utilized to detect any damage done to the rubber tiles, so that customized replacement parts can be quickly manufactured.

Creaform provides solutions that cover the entire range of 3-D applications, including 3-D scanning, reverse engineering, quality control, design and engineering, and FEA. Its products are suitable for the automotive, aerospace, defense, consumer products, education, heritage preservation and architecture, manufacturing, medical care and multimedia industries.
