Purchase Contract

The FBI has awarded a contract to !%Optra Inc.%! of Topsfield, Mass., to supply laser event recorders that will be used to fight the laser dazzle problem faced by pilots worldwide. The ultraprecision measurement solutions provider originally developed the technology under a US Navy contract. The recorder can be used in a cockpit to detect a handheld laser pointed in the direction of an aircraft, enabling a pilot to avoid eye contact while simultaneously capturing critical information that can be used to locate, apprehend and prosecute the offender.
