Optical software developer Optical Research Associates (ORA) announced the winners it selected for the annual Robert S. Hilbert Memorial Optical Design Competition, with granted awards totaling $4,000.

The awards are given to students in North America who are working toward a bachelor’s, master’s or Ph.D. degree, and who utilize ORA’s Code V or LightTools software to perform research in some area of optical design or engineering.

The 2010 top award winners are: Jesse McMullen, a Ph.D. candidate at Cornell University who used both software tools for his work titled, “A Multiphoton Objective Design With Incorporated Beam Splitter for Enhanced Fluorescence Collection;” and Joshua Kim, a Ph.D. candidate from the University of Arizona, College of Optical Sciences who utilized the company’s LightTools software for his work titled, “Modeling Transflective LCD Illumination Systems.”

Other awards were given to Ph.D. candidates Kyle Fuerschbach and Ying Geng, both from the University of Rochester, Institute of Optics, for their work utilizing the company’s Code V software.
