Segner Named CTO of Veeco’s Solar Equipment Biz

Veeco Instruments Inc. announced that Johannes Segner, Ph.D, recently the company as chief technology officer for its Solar Equipment business.

In other news, the company hosted a solar technical seminar Monday at EU-PVSEC in Valencia, Spain, where it exhibited its copper indium gallium selenide (CIGS) solar manufacturing equipment at the tradeshow. The display will be available for viewing through Sept. 9.

Segner spoke at the seminar, presenting “Designing a Best-of-Breed CIGS Thermal Deposition Factory, Lessons Learned and Future Considerations.”

According to David Bruns, vice president and general manager, Segner will play an integral role in the strategic direction and development of the company’s equipment and its future growth.

Joining Veeco after a 30-year career in the field of thin film coating technology, Segner most recently served as chief operating officer at Solibro GmbH, a CIGS-based solar cells manufacturer. In his new role, he will be responsible for establishing Veeco’s technical vision for CIGS solar products, leading the development of technology strategy for product platforms, technology roadmaps, partnerships and external relationships.

Veeco Instruments markets, manufactures, designs and services enabling solutions for customers in the HB-LED, solar, data storage, semiconductor, scientific research and industrial markets.
