Sydor Optics Completes 1st Half of $4M Expansion

Flat glass optics manufacturer Sydor Optics announced the completion of the first half of its $4 million acquisition in double-sided polishing and metrology equipment, with a second half of expansion to be completed within the next six months.

Coupled with the company’s continuous investment in team development and process improvement, this investment will allow the company to continue its growth while handling its customer’s increasing volume and size demands.

The company credits its growth to its willingness to take risks for its customers and modernize its equipment to meet the changing needs created by innovation in the entertainment, defense and life science industries.

The flat glass optics manufacturer has acquired $2 million in new equipment to meet customer demand.

“Although I think we’ve been lucky, we’d like to think it’s because we strive to be in step with our customers,” said James Sydor, president. “We tend to stick with our specialty of processing parallel optics using double-sided equipment because it yields exceptional parallelism and transmitted wavefronts.”

Sydor’s products are utilized in military products, including heads-up displays and laser protection filters, as well as in DNA sequencing and optics used in the production of movies.

With the PR Hoffman equipment, it can now double-side grind and polish optics up to 740 nm in diameter. The new equipment includes 11 PR Hoffman 5400 double-sided machines, two PR Hoffman 1500 double-sided machines, two Haas Mini Mills, a Tropel Flatmaster 200 interferometer and two Zygo interferometers.
