Near-IR Technique Sheds Light on Kinetic Reactions

Chemists at Marquette University in Milwaukee have used a multispectral imaging spectrometer constructed with an acousto-optic filter and an InGaAs focal plane array to study the kinetics of curing an epoxy resin. The researchers' results obtained using their device corresponded closely with conventional Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) analysis.

Their customized spectrometer also offers more capabilities than conventional FTIR spectrometers, such as providing kinetic information at different positions within the sample.

Details appear in the March 1 issue of Analytical Chemistry.
