FILAS Deadline Fast Approaching

The deadline for submitting research and work to the new Optical Society of America topical meeting Fiber Laser Applications (FILAS) is Monday, Oct. 18, 2010, noon EDT (16.00 GMT).

The Optical Society of America (OSA) is launching the meeting to bring together industry and research experts to present and discuss the latest advances on fiber laser technology and how they impact on numerous application areas, from both classical and novel industrial applications to environmental monitoring and medicine.

Topics to be covered by FILAS 2011 include fiber laser technologies, such high power cw, pulsed, IR, visible and UV fiber lasers; and fiber laser applications, such as cutting and welding, scintering and powder deposition, photovoltaic materials processing, microelectronics and flat panel displays, micromachining and precision marking, femtosecond laser micromachining, environmental monitoring, medical, novel applications and sensing.

The first FILAS meeting will be held Feb. 16-18, 2011, in Istanbul, Turkey as a part of an OSA Optics & Photonics Congress (OPC). Within the OPC, FILAS will be collocated with three sister meetings: Advanced Solid State Photonics (ASSP), Advances in Optical Materials (AIOM), and High Intensity Lasers and High Field Phenomena (HILAS). Registration for any sister meeting within the OPC ensures access to all four conferences.

FILAS 2011 will include 15 exciting invited presentations to present a sweeping overview of cutting-edge and emerging applications. In addition, being collocated with ASSP, a flagship conference on advanced source development, FILAS is expected to bring together the user and developer communities.

Istanbul, a bustling metropolis across two continents with a millennia-long multicultural heritage, provides a dazzling venue for the OPC, promising to bring together a large number of Western, Eastern European and Asian participants and exhibitors.

General chairs of the meeting are Valentin Gapontsev, at IPG Photonics Corp., in the US, and Jose Salcedo, at Multiwave Photonics, in Portugal. Program chairs are Nasser Peyghambarian, at the University of Arizona, in the US, and Francois Salin, at EOLITE in France.
