Alwitra Completes Largest Solyndra Installation in Germany
Solyndra Inc., a manufacturer of cylindrical photovoltaic (PV) systems for large commercial rooftops, announced that Alwitra GmbH has completed a 1.02 MW PV system together with their highly reflective Evalon waterproofing membrane and Solyndra solar panels, on a warehouse of Parts Europe GmbH in Konz, Germany. The system is the largest Solyndra system in Germany so far and the second largest worldwide.
"On a rooftop of this size Parts Europe gets strong benefits from the highly reflective Evalon waterproofing membrane and the power generation of the Solyndra solar system," said Clemens Jargon, Solyndra's president of EMEA and managing director. "Alwitra's extensive know-how on roof sealing and Solyndra's PV system allowed them to complete the entire project in less than 10 weeks."
"The location and size of Parts Europe's warehouse are absolutely predestined for the use of power generation. The unique design of Solyndra's cylindrical, non-penetrating and very light weight panels made them the best solution for this large project," said Joachim Gussner, president of Alwitra. "Using Solyndra with our Evalon waterproofing membrane allows us to offer the building owner the best combination of a roof sealing solution and a solar system that actually gets more power as a result of the reflective qualities of the roof."
Parts Europe is a motorcycle accessories distributor and the rooftop installation is on a warehouse. The project covers 13,000 square meters of rooftop with Evalon waterproofing membrane and approximately 10,700 square meters of rooftop with more than 5400 Solyndra panels. More than 33,000 meters of cable were used in the project which generates 1.023 MW or the equivalent of the annual power needed to supply 250 households.
