G-S Plastic Optics Expands Metrology Capability

G-S Plastic Optics has announced an upgraded metrology laboratory with the addition of a PerkinElmer Lambda 950 spectrophotometer. The company’s goal is to improve its core competencies of creating high-precision polymer optics. The spectrophotometer will enable the company to meet its growing program demands.

GSPO produces polymer optics with low-stress, dense, durable coatings for most thin-film requirements. Its onsite coating chamber configuration also includes a unique, flexible rotation system to accommodate the many complex shapes that are increasingly prevalent in plastic optics design. The company said customers would confirm, however, that it’s not enough for a vendor to say an optic can be coated — the coating’s performance must be documented. The Lambda 950 is a high-performance UV/VIS/NIR spectrophotometer that is capable of making transmission, reflection and absorption measurements across a spectral range of 190 to 3300 nm.

“We went with PerkinElmer because their spectrophotometers are recognized as being the industry standard. Many of our new programs have performance demands beyond the spectral range normally associated with thermopolymers,” said Will Beich, director of new business development at GSPO. “Lambda 950 is the perfect choice for the new work that is coming online at GSPO.”
