Laser Mirror Return, Repair Services See Surge

Infrared mirror manufacturer Laser Beam Products (LBP) announced it has received a big upswing in orders for its laser mirror return and repair services.

Customers can send LBP their copper or silicon mirrors that may be old or slightly damaged. The company will assess them free of charge to see if repair is possible, repair mirrors to a condition that is as close to new as possible and return them to the customer.

The service is effective for customers with water-cooled, large or unusual shaped mirrors. It allows customers to reuse their own materials, a recycling tactic that can contribute toward ISO 14000 certification, as well as cost savings.

The current climate of cost-cutting has helped to boost sales of repair services, according to Mark Wilkinson, the company’s managing director. He is forecasting further growth for 2011.

“We have received orders from a wide range of customers including University research departments, automotive manufacturers, laser welders and laser manufacturers and enquiries are increasing,” said Wilkinson. “We’re really pleased with the growth in sales as customers realize the value of reworking their own old or damaged mirrors rather than buying new.”

He noted that one customer has saved $15,000 by reworking its used mirrors instead of buying new. The large European automotive manufacturer sent LBP a collection of used mirrors that were damaged with burns or scratches. The mirrors were repolished and recoated in less than three weeks, and returned to the customer. Satisfied with the services of LBP, the client has since place several more orders for mirror repairs.

The company only repairs and returns the customers’ own mirrors.
