LumaSense Acquisition Expands Thermal Imaging Capabilities

LumaSense Technologies Inc., a maker of temperature and gas sensing products, announced it has acquired Buellton, Calif.-based InfraredVision Technology Corp. (ITC) from L-3 Communications. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

ITC produces vanadium oxide microbolometer detectors, used in thermal imaging systems such as infrared cameras. LumaSense, which currently provides temperature- and emissions-monitoring sensors and cameras to the energy, industrial and clean technology markets, said the acquisition will allow it to expand its offerings into areas such as public safety, with specialized applications including security, traffic control and firefighting.

LumaSense said it will retain all of ITC's employees, who will remain based at the company's Buellton facilities.

"Welcoming ITC gives us greater flexibility and control in designing thermal imaging solutions that meet our customers' individual needs," said Vivek Joshi, LumaSense CEO.
