Space Imaging Establishes South American Presence

DENVER, Aug. 26 -- Space Imaging has created a wholly owned subsidiary, Space Imaging Latin America, to receive and process satellite imagery collected by the Indian Remote Sensing (IRS) satellites over the Latin American regions. A ground receiving station owned by the Centro de Levantamientos Integrados de Recursos Naturales por Sensores Remotos, or CLIRSEN, in Cotopaxi, Ecuador, has started to receive IRS imagery. The imagery is scheduled to be commercially available by the end of August.
Space Imaging has exclusive rights to market and distribute imagery collected by the IRS satellites outside of India. The two identical IRS-1C and IRS-1D satellites were launched from India in December 1995 and September 1997, respectively. Each satellite carries three sensors that collect 5-m resolution panchromatic (black-and-white), 20-m resolution multispectral (color), and 180-m resolution multispectral wide-area images. Both satellites pass over the Ecuador ground station several times each day.
