OSA Foundation, Coherent Partner to Support Students

The OSA Foundation and Coherent Inc. jointly announced the participating student chapters in the OSA Foundation’s new Adopt a Student Chapter Program, which provides financial sponsorship on behalf of Coherent to six OSA student chapters in Brazil, China and India.

The sponsorship will assist the chapters in holding a range of academic and professional networking activities. In addition, the program will provide opportunities for the participants to build relationships with professional staff at Coherent.

Each chapter will be given three sets of grants for programs and activities in 2011: an activity grant, leadership travel grant and traveling lecturer grant. These will help the chapters to supplement costs for professional development, travel expenses and guest lectures.

The 2011 Coherent-sponsored OSA student chapters are: Universidade Federal de Pernambuco and Universidade Federal de Alagoas, both of Brazil; Tsinghua University and Zhejiang University, both of China; and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Delhi) and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Madras), both of India.

The OSA Foundation was established to support philanthropic activities that help further OSA’s mission to provide optics and photonics education to youth, underserved populations and professionals.

Coherent Inc. provides lasers and laser-based solutions.
