Samsung Licenses OptiML from Tessera

Miniaturization technologies provider Tessera Technologies Inc., maker of the OptiML Zoom image enhancement solution for miniature cameras, announced that the System LSI Div. of Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. has licensed that technology.

The technology, which provides 3× zoom capability without any moving parts, can be used in cell phones, portable video recorders and other camera-equipped mobile devices. It combines lens designs with specialized algorithms to provide zoom solutions that are smaller, more cost-effective, easier to manufacture and more reliable, according to the company.
