JDSU, Amada to Develop More kW Fiber Lasers

JDSU and Amada have announced plans to jointly develop a second-generation suite of fiber lasers with up to 4 kW of output power. The lasers will be used in the latter’s high-power laser materials processing system.

JDSU’s collaboration with Amada, a manufacturer of machine tools for metal fabrication, builds on the companies’ partnership for the first-generation laser, which is currently being launched. The next-generation laser focuses on improved cost, reduced size and enhanced beam quality.

JDSU’s fiber optic technology was integrated into Amada’s sheet metal cutting system. The laser can cut through highly reflective metals, including titanium, brass and copper, offering the flexibility required to cut different and very precise shapes with the system’s settings.
