Optical components and systems companies have reported solid revenues for most of 2010 and fourth-quarter results that set records, according to LightCounting LLC. Based in Eugene, Ore., the market research company focuses on the optical communications market. LightCounting has forecast solid growth for the market and has found that the cumulative bandwidth of the network was not keeping up with the rise in Internet and data center traffic. Its analysis indicates that a period of increased investment in networking infrastructure will be necessary to catch up on several years of underinvestment and to balance traffic growth and network expansion rates. A detailed analysis of the optical communications market was released by the company in January.
