Fiber-Guided Missile Passes New Test
WHITE SANDS MISSILE RANGE, N.M., Sept. 24 -- The US Army's Enhanced Fiber Optic Guided Missile (EFOGM), under development by Raytheon Co., has completed a successful ninth flight at the White Sands Missile Range -- another achievement in the EFOGM Advanced Technology Demonstration flight and ground equipment test program.
This full-flight test was the first to integrate a soldier gunner and a live tactical warhead. Both were successful, as the gunner achieved a direct hit and the EFOGM warhead detonated on target impact, with the warhead functioning as planned. On the most recent night mission, as during three prior flights, the missile's imaging infrared seeker was able to detect and track stationary and moving enemy targets and display the targets on the gunner's console.
