Sharp Expects Profit from Solar Cell Field

Sharp has announced that its operating profit for the coming fiscal year will be 23 percent, crediting LCD and solar cell field as its main sources of income.

The company’s operating profits for this year ended March 31 and were expected to record $1.2 billion, a rise of more than 78.9 billion yen over the previous year. Sharp said it expects to make revenue of 32 billion yen, 87 percent over last year, in the LCD division.

The increase in revenue can be analyzed through rising demand of mobile devices for small panels. The company also said profits in the solar cell portion are expected to be 80 billion yen, about four times that of last year.

Sales rose 0.9 percent from 3.02 trillion yen to 3.05 trillion in the same period.
