OmniVision to Acquire Wafer-Level Lens Operation

OmniVision Technologies Inc. has agreed to buy the wafer-level lens production operations of VisEra Technologies Co. Ltd., its joint venture with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd., for $45 million cash. It expects to close the transaction in the second quarter of its fiscal year 2012.

OmniVision currently outsources the production and assembly processes associated with its CameraCube technology to VisEra. The purchase will enable the company to streamline production, consolidate the supply chain, expand capacity and reduce costs, it said.

OmniVision Technologies develops advanced digital imaging solutions for consumer and commercial applications, including mobile phones, notebooks, tablets, webcams, digital still and video cameras, security and surveillance, automotive and medical imaging systems.
