Tyndall Launches InfiniLED Spinout

Tyndall National Institute UCC has launched InfiniLED Ltd., a high-tech spinout that will commercialize a new generation of LED technology that significantly extends the battery life for portable devices such as cameras, mobile phones, laptops, and medical and analytical instrumentation.

Micro LED, the new technology, produces more usable light and uses less energy. It was invented by researchers at Tyndall National Institute and supported and funded by Enterprise Ireland.

Under the EI Business Partner Programme, Joe O’Keeffe, an entrepreneur who already has spun out a series of successful companies, evaluated the commercial potential of the Micro LED, which led to the launch of the new company.

“Our Micro LED technology extends battery life by up to five times, relative to the current state of the art for any device with an LCD,” said O’Keeffe, who is acting as interim CEO of InfiniLED. “The Micro LED technology brings performance advantages across a broad spectrum of applications. Already, products have been developed to serve LCD … medical and analytical instrumentation, and maskless lithography markets.”
