SoloPower Secures DoE Loan to Expand 3 Solar Plants
SoloPower Inc. has received a $197 million loan guarantee from the US Department of Energy that will support the construction of three facilities that are expected to produce approximately 400 MW of state-of-the-art thin-film photovoltaic modules annually.
In addition to enlarging its existing San Jose operation, the company will construct and operate two new facilities in Portland, Ore. The plants are anticipated to create 450 permanent jobs, 270 construction jobs and several hundred additional supply chain jobs, the company said.
In preparation, SoloPower has begun making improvements to its San Jose facility.
Construction on the first Portland facility is expected to start next month.
SoloPower manufactures flexible thin-film solar cells and modules.
