OmniVision to Acquire Lens Production Operation

!%OmniVision Technologies Inc.%! of Santa Clara, Calif., has agreed to buy the wafer-level lens production operations of VisEra Technologies Co. Ltd. of Hsinchu City, Taiwan, its joint venture with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd., for $45 million cash. It expects to close the transaction in the second quarter of fiscal 2012. OmniVision currently outsources the production and assembly processes associated with its CameraCube technology to VisEra. The purchase will enable the company to streamline production, consolidate the supply chain, expand capacity and reduce costs.
