Sydor Instruments Completes HQ Move

Streak camera maker Sydor Instruments has finished relocating its headquarters. The new 16,000-sq-ft facility, also in Rochester, will be used for design, production, and testing of its custom diagnostics and imaging systems, the company said.

"We've opened our new facility to meet increasing demand for new products like the ROSS [Rochester Optical Streak System] 1000 and ballistics imaging system," said Sydor Instruments President Michael Pavia. He added that, with the new space, growth in the energy and defense and security markets will allow the company to add new engineers and increase production.

Sydor Instruments is also looking for a technology company to lease up to 7000 sq ft in the new facility, which is near the University of Rochester and Rochester Institute of Technology.

The company said it expects 2012 growth to mirror emerging commercial, research and defense needs for improved testing and diagnostics. There is a need to improve testing procedures for equipment survivability, lethality and vulnerability to ensure that it functions effectively in hostile circumstances, Sydor said, citing recent reports.

The Army has asked Sydor to design an imaging system that is accurate, measurable and repeatable and that will enable dynamic characterization of small caliber projectiles, including velocity and complete yaw cycle measurements. The system will be used on survivability and lethality assessments at Aberdeen Test Center.

The new facility is located on Millstead Way.
