FBGS Technologies Launches Subsidiary in Belgium
A new company, FBGS International, was founded and started as of July 1, 2011. FBGS International, headquartered in Belgium, is a fully owned subsidiary of FBGS Technologies of Germany.
The company has taken over a major part of the business, technology and staff of the former FOS&S and will commercialize the draw tower gratings (DTGs) of FBGS Technologies as well as other related fiber optical sensing products.
By combining the expertise of FOS&S in the development and manufacturing of fiber optic sensing solutions and the know-how of FBGS Technologies regarding the manufacture of DTGs, FBGS International will consolidate the business of FOS&S and FBGS Technologies in three main areas:
• Supply of OEM products: DTGs and measurement modules
• Supply of strain and temperature-monitoring products
• Supply of customized products for dedicated volume applications.
FBGS International will be active in markets such as aerospace, oil and gas, and electricity generation as well as in the process, medical and composite industries.
To support these activities, FBGS International relies on strong capitalization realized by a consortium of investors: bm-t’s Private Equity Thüringen Fund, Sylex, Crosswise and Xenics.
Sylex, a company focusing on the design, development, production and commercialization of passive components and subsystems of fiber optic networks, will take over and continue the business of FOS&S in two areas:
• Civil engineering market
• Geotechnical market
During a four-year collaboration with FOS&S, Sylex has provided industrial engineering and manufacturing services to FOS&S for the fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors and related optical connectivity. This makes them a suitable partner to continue this part of the business.
Sylex will also continue to support FBGS International by providing engineering and manufacturing capabilities.
