Thorlabs Buys Burleigh Line from Lumen Dynamics
Lumen Dynamics has sold its Burleigh line to Thorlabs Inc., the companies announced Friday. The line includes piezoelectric micromanipulators and microscope mounting systems for life sciences research. Specific terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“Electrophysiology is a rapidly expanding field. By adding Burleigh’s products to our growing line of imaging systems and components, we believe that Thorlabs is well positioned to foster the forward movement of electrophysiology research,” said Alex Cable, president and founder of Thorlabs, a maker of photonics equipment for the scientific market.
The sale will allow Ontario-based Lumen Dynamics to focus on its light-based solutions for cellular imaging, medical and optoelectronics assembly, and UV printing industries, President and CEO Allan Firhoj said. The sale also will allow the Burleigh line to be more strategically developed, the company said.
Thorlabs will debut the line at Neuroscience 2011 in Washington in November.
